To upgrade the failing cabled and partial old technology wireless infrastructure for access control and security systems, a flexible and reliable wireless infrastructure was needed. This new infrastructure would cover multiple camera locations in tenement blocks with added resilience. Furthermore, it would need to be cost-effective.
Atec Security installed a system using the 11n MICRO and 11n LITE links as multiple point-to-point links. This system linked back to the centrally managed digital recording system and access control system in the control room. It wirelessly connected to multiple remote stations with ANPR and CCTV cameras attached.
The system was quickly installed. The Atec Security team was delighted with the monitoring facilities within the SilverView network monitoring software. They admired the ability to quickly configure the system.
The high bandwidth availability of the system allows for easy expansion and the addition of multiple cameras without any system performance degradation.
A key part of the system design was to have redundant links so if a link dropped for any reason another was able to take over. Using ‘RingMESH’ design SilverNet and Atec Security were able to design a cost effective system that gave the customer just that.
The high-bandwidth 11n range was used for multiple point-to-point links to the control room. Their small size and weight were beneficial. Combined with the ability to provide cabled speeds across the network, this made them ideal for this purpose. The ‘RingMESH’ topology was achieved by incorporating managed network switches at each junction point. These ran a sophisticated version of spanning tree.
